Liver steroid Toxicity

Steroids Liver toxicity – How long do you think you can keep drinking?

Steroid Liver toxicity – Hepatoxicity

Due to some roiders who have been experiencing problems in this area recently, I’ve decided to write a post of the toxicity of oral steroids.

Some people think they can still drink while on cycle.

Well, YOU THOUGHT WRONG.

It is a well-known fact that most oral anabolic steroids, as well as a select few injectable anabolic steroids induce a measure of liver toxicity (properly referred to as hepatotoxicity) in the body. The range of hepatoxocitiy that these compounds can cause varies a great deal, ranging from very minor to serious life-threatening damage. The word “liver toxicity” and “hepatotoxicity” is thrown around a lot in bodybuilding circles and throughout the anabolic steroid using community, but how many people actually understand what these terms mean? How many people actually know what specifically it is that is “toxic” about the anabolic steroid in the liver? What is it that actually happens to the liver cells. The majority of people who throw around the words “liver toxic” will not be able to answer those questions at all. This is where that should change. After reading through this post, you will understand why certain anabolic steroids cause hepatotoxicity, what hepatotoxicity actually is, and how it affects the body, and most importantly: what you can do about it and what liver protectants to take.

Liver

Liver damage is one of the most blown out of proportion side-effects known to man; it’s often stated as a matter of fact, but most steroids carry no liver toxic effects. For this to be a risk, you must be supplementing with a C17-alpha alkylated (C17-aa) anabolic steroid. The C17-aa nature refers to a structural alteration of the hormone at the 17th carbon position that allows it to survive the first pass through the liver; without it, that particular steroid would largely be destroyed before it could ever provide a benefit to the body. Most oral steroids are C17-aa, with the exception of oral Primobolan and Proviron and most injectable steroids are not; Winstrol Depot and injectable Dianabol being the two primary exceptions. At any rate, with the use of a C17-aa steroid, your liver enzyme values will increase; however, if C17-aa steroids are used responsibly most will find their liver enzyme values return to normal shortly after use is discontinued and no damage is done. This responsible use means staying within the recommended dosing and time frames of use, and it also means avoiding alcohol consumption and all over the counter medications where possible. It should be noted; the hepatotoxicity of a C17-aa steroid will vary greatly from one to the next.

C17-Alpha Alkylation and What It Does

Without the C17AA modification, very little of the anabolic steroid when ingested will survive hepatic metabolism (liver metabolism), and not enough of it will reach the bloodstream to produce any noticeable effects. It is because of C17-alpha alkylation, that the anabolic steroid becomes orally active and bio available – without it, the anabolic steroid would not survive liver metabolism. However, the negative downside in this case is that of increased hepatotoxicity (increased liver toxicity).

Liver Protectants?

Milk thistle, which contains silymarin and silybin are known as being powerful antioxidants in the liver in particular. Many studies have been conducted on the efficiency and have demonstrated them to exhibit a plethora of beneficial properties in liver tissue. As a general liver health support, it is not too bad.

Alpha lipoic acid is a fatty acid found naturally inside every cell in the body. It’s needed by the body to produce the energy for our body’s normal functions. Alpha lipoic acid converts glucose (blood sugar) into energy. Other names for it include lipoic acid, thioctic acid, and ALA.

Alpha lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, a substance that neutralizes potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals. What makes alpha lipoic acid unique is that it functions in water and fat, unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and vitamin E, and it appears to be able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up. Glutathione is an important antioxidant that helps the body eliminate potentially harmful substances. Alpha lipoic acid increases the formation of glutathione.

In Summary –

Taking oral anabolic steroids will cause Hepatoxic stress on the liver.

Roids such as Dbol, Winstrol even Anabol and any other androgenic compound should be taken in moderation orally.

With careful usage , and understanding your body, your body will return to normal after your cycle.

Maintain healthy liver function with off the shelf pharmaceutical products such as milk thistle and ALA

If there are negative side effects such as stomach pain, lower abdominal pain, discoloration of urine . Roider should stop taking product immediately and begin a liver detox cycle.
